The world's largest whiskey distiller, Jack Daniel's, has become the latest company to embrace Web3 and the metaverse. On September 13, Jack Daniel filed several trademarks related to Web3 with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
More global companies are beginning to recognize the potential benefits of incorporating metadata storage and NFTs into their services. Thus, the popular whiskey brand Jack Daniels has become the newest company to register three metadata-relevant trademarks.
On September 19, licensed trademark attorney Michael Kondoudis, a regular source of Web3 trademark news, tweeted about trademarks.
Three trademark applications concern token-authenticated non-fungible media, barware, virtual drinks, virtual clothes, collectibles, and digital wallets. According to the application, Jack Daniel's also plans to provide downloadable computer software with information about drinks and clothing.
Although the metaverse industry is still in its infancy, Jack Daniels joins a long list of consumer brands and individuals looking to establish a presence in it. Mars Inc., a chocolate maker, is one notable company that has taken a similar approach, having applied for the NFT mark for its popular brand M&M.
Even in a bear market, Web3-related trademark applications are pouring in. Between January 1st and August 31st of this year, slightly more trademark applications for crypto and Web3-related products were filed than in the entire year of 2021.
While Jack Daniels has not stated his intentions for the metaverse, it is clear from the trademarks that the Tennessee whiskey maker is enthusiastic about Web3.
