NFT "Dutch auctions" are a bunch of nonsense. They do not effectively mediate demand, nor do they effectively negate gas wars in highly anticipated mints.
This is especially troubling given that the Otherdeed mint may be one of the most large-scale, high-demand NFT mints ever. The sheer number of NFTs to be minted would exacerbate all of the usual problems associated with NFT mints gas wars, potentially resulting in a gas war of historic proportions.
So, screw holding a Dutch auction.

The mechanics of this drop are pointing to very strong secondary price appreciation following launch. The Yuga Labs team prioritizing this makes perfect sense — another 100,000 square feet of land will be available in a few months, and it will be much easier for them to justify charging more in the next sale if the existing floor of land is higher.
The Kodas will be the most important consideration for many collectors. The speculation surrounding these NFT mints are insane, but the most popular theory at the moment is that each parcel of land has a 10% chance of receiving a Koda (10,000 kodas / 100,000 parcels of land). If you take the value and floor of other YL NFTs and place the Kodas slightly below the Mutants, they still command a 15-20 ETH floor.
Each mint of land appears to consume more than 200,000 gallons of gas. We can expect the release to last 350+ blocks, or 1.5+ hours, if we assume 15 second blocks (which will likely be longer when gas spikes).
