At a New York auction, FC Barcelona's first NFT work of art brought in $693,000. Digital assets like pictures, videos, or anything else that may be converted into a digital copy are referred to as NFTs.
Johan Cruyff's famous stadium moment on December 22, 1973, when he "flies" into the air to score a goal against football team Atletico Madrid, is recreated in Barca's NFT titled "In a Way, Immortal." The sale ended at $550,000, just to be clear. However, when the costs of the auctioneer were included, the final sale value came to $693,000.
The NFT receiver has also purchased four additional NFTs that have "a static image of the animated version that captures an iconic moment of the legendary goal," according to an FC Barcelona announcement.
This NFT was created by the Club in association with a strategic innovation partner, BCN Visuals, and Digital Superstudio, who created the NFT's cinematic look.
By purchasing NFT, the buyer will become a Barca Digital Ambassador and be eligible for a range of VIP perks and experiences with the Club. The purchaser will have access to a variety of "money can't buy" experiences, according to a press statement from the club.
According to the club, "FC Barcelona will include a number of experiences in NFT's smart contract, including Meet & Greets, trips to La Masia, hospitality rights (for at least five years), the right to play at Spotify Camp Nou, and the official transfer of the pre-match ball."
In early 2021, FC Barcelona announced the termination of its deal with NFT marketplace Ownix, following the arrest of crypto scammer Moshe Hogeg, alleged NFT market advisor. Hogeg was arrested by the police along with seven others for major crypto-related fraud. The partnership would allow fans to purchase NFTs for virtual items linked to the club's past.
