Profits from sales will benefit three non-profit organizations that help women and children all over the world.

There have been stranger collaborations in the art world, but few have garnered as much attention as Madonna's new partnership with Beeple. The Like a Virgin singer and the auction record-breaking digital artist have collaborated to create three NFTs (non-fungible tokens) titled Mother of Creation, which will be available tomorrow on SuperRare, the platform for unique curated NFT works, for 0.00035774 ETH ($1).

"A labor of love, a year in the making—both artists collaborated to connect to the idea of creation and motherhood as told through this visual medium," according to the project's description. According to a press release, "the works explore the concept of birth in our modern world through darkness and light." "I wanted to investigate the concept of creation, not only how a child enters the world through a woman's vagina, but also how an artist gives birth to creativity," Madonna adds.

Mother of Nature depicts a tree sprouting from Madonna's body, while Mother of Technology depicts a centipede roaming a forest—"The centipede represents technology both the life-giving-force and the dangers of it, the juxtaposition of dark and light"—and the poetry of 13th-century Persian writer Rumi.

All sales proceeds will benefit three non-profit organizations, including The Voices of Children Foundation, which has been assisting women and children affected by Ukraine's war since 2015. The City of Joy, a community for women survivors of violence in the Eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Black Mama's Bail Out in Tennessee are the other charities.

Since Beeple sold an NFT for $69 million at auction in March of last year (Everyday: The First 5000 Days, 2021), art world commentators have debated whether the phenomenon is here to stay or a passing fad. Last year, Yuki Terase, co-founder of the Hong Kong-based advisory firm Art Intelligence Global, told us that NFTs "will revolutionize the way we consume, experience, and share art, and this new ecosystem will be largely shaped and driven by new market players–strongly led by young Asian collectors." However, regulators are also interested in cryptocurrencies and NFTs, and tighter controls will inevitably dampen the frenzy.
