Candy Digital, an NFT platform, has released another "Stranger Things" mini game for Netflix. Users must answer riddles to earn NFTs from the show's stars. However, some admirers are dissatisfied.

"Stranger Things" NFTs are 11,111 unique tokens that reflect ownership of one of five digital posters on Candy Digital's Palm blockchain (an Ethereum layer 2 sidechain). Netflix criticized the NFT relationship quietly in April with concealed messages in the Season 4 teaser for its hit original series.

Nearly 4,700 people played a mystery game involving a virtual "Stranger Things" lab last week, receiving a free NFT poster of Millie Bobbie Brown's character Eleven. A fresh round of the mini game went up on the website this week. To win one of four upcoming free NFT posters for the characters Mike Wheeler, Jonathan Byers, Will Byers, or Argyle, players must complete "I'm Hell's Master" puzzles.

The announcement elicited a variety of reactions. The mini game was well-received by crypto enthusiasts and show viewers alike. At least one "Stranger Things" fan reported being locked out of their account repeatedly while attempting to finish the challenge, according to individuals interested in collecting NFTs.

Other fans were enraged when the "Stranger Things" Twitter account published NFT news last week.

"Do you think NFTs are important to us?"

It was co-written by a fan with a GIF of a man drawing a gun. Another fan of "Stranger Things" called NFT technology a "grift."

"I love Stranger Things," the fan commented, "but I'm terribly sad that Netflix thought it would be a good idea to run an NFT gimmick on its viewers." "I'm not going near this garbage."

"Once again, I request that Netflix STOP PRODUCING NFTs of my favorite shows. I can't cope with the sadness," another fan commented, recalling past Ethereum NFTs provided by Netflix for the sci-fi shows Love, Death, and Robots.

Others dubbed the NFTs "bullshit," responding with emojis and weeping GIFs, and even telling the corporation "f*ck you." The outcry against NFTs is nothing new; Ubisoft's switch to Tezos NFTs and Square Enix's interest in NFT games have enraged many in the video gaming industry. Because of the backlash against NFTs, some independent game NFT integrations have been canceled.

Netflix's NFTs and minigame with Candy are the platform's first step into major Hollywood collaborations. Candy has previously worked with Major League Baseball (MLB), WWE, and Getty Images.
