Winamp with NFT Music

Winamp added support for Ethereum and Polygon-based music NFTs.
December 7, 2022

This spring, Winamp launched its Foundation to assist musicians all over the world in creating music they enjoy. All funds raised by the Foundation will be donated to charitable organizations that support music and musicians.

In the most recent update to its desktop player, Winamp, the classic old-school PC-compatible media player, added support for Ethereum and Polygon-based music non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

Since 1997, Winamp has been one of the most popular media players for PC users, but it has since been surpassed by Windows Media Player and Apple's dominant iTunes.

It has a reputation for supporting a wide range of media files, and the Winamp team announced on December 7 that NFT support is now officially live and available.

Users can now connect their Metamask wallets from a variety of browsers and upload music embedded in Ethereum and Polygon ERC-721 and ERC-1155 tokens.

"We are proud to launch the first standalone player that reads NFT audio and other available formats," Winamp CEO Alexandre Saboundjian said in a statement.

Soon, there may be a plethora of Polygon-based music NFTs to choose from. On December 7, the Ethereum Blockchain scaling solution team also announced a collaboration with Warner Music and LGND Music to create a "collaborative, digital collectible" music platform.

LGND Music, the platform, is set to launch in January 2023 and will provide users with an easy-to-use launcher for purchasing and storing NFT music.
